COVID-19 and the Church

We will have church this Sunday morning!

There are a lot of details to go over, but that’s the big news. Jackson County has revised the restrictions on churches, allowing us to operate with the same guidelines as businesses. There are some very important changes that we’ll be observing in order to be in compliance; please take a moment to read this ahead of time.

Church will start at 10:00am sharp and will last one hour.

  • The livestream on Facebook will still be broadcast for those who can’t make it, so it remains important for us to be punctual.
  • Once church begins, we are asking everyone to remain at their seats through worship and the message. Keeping the service to one hour will make this more doable.

Our seating is limited.

  • In order to meet the required limits on occupancy, and to allow safe distancing, we have had to remove seating.
  • Ushers will be on hand to seat you. Many of us have favorite seats or areas that we normally sit in, but we are asking you to be willing to give this up temporarily in order to for us to get the most out of what we are allowed.
  • It will take longer than usual for the ushers to get everyone in the best spots, so we are asking everyone to arrive early, preferably at around 9:45am.

We have taken careful measures to plan for a clean environment and safe distancing.

  • To allow us to get an accurate occupancy count, the only entrance will be through the main foyer. To avoid congestion in the foyer, we may ask you to briefly wait on the front sidewalk before entering. Multiple exits will be open after church.
  • The church has been thoroughly cleaned and surfaces will be wiped throughout the morning. All doors except restroom doors will be propped open to reduce contact. Antibacterial gel will be available at multiple locations.
  • PPE (masks, gloves) are encouraged by the health department but not required.
  • Maintaining six feet of space is required by the health department and is very important to many in our congregation, so please avoid personal contact. (Hugs, handshakes, etc.)
  • If you have have a cough or fever, or are at risk, please stay home.
  • We ask that once church begins, you stay at your seats. It will only be an hour!

For now, we cannot offer Sunday School or Nursery.

  • Hopefully this won’t be long! As hard as it is for us to keep our distance, it is much more difficult for children.
  • Families with children are welcome to come. Children will need to remain with families at their seats; if noise becomes distracting to others, a parent should step out with the child.

The coffee bar will be closed. [Gasp]

  • Self serve food and beverage are still prohibited, but you are welcome to bring your own coffee in a cup with a lid.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! We are not excited about having restrictions, but it’s a small price to pay to be able to come together in a way that is safe for everyone. If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to call Pastors Howard or John.
